Senior Legal Counsel - CDD
Join sunday as Senior Legal Counsel to shape contracts, privacy and payments across Europe and the US, supporting international growth in a fast-moving fintech.
👋 About Us
sunday is building the fastest, simplest way to pay in restaurants. With a quick scan of a QR code, diners can pay, tip, and leave in about 10 seconds. We believe great products should feel obvious, not complicated, and we focus relentlessly on keeping things simple while earning trust from restaurants and guests at every interaction. Today, sunday powers payments in thousands of restaurants across the US, UK, and France, helping operators turn tables faster, increase tips, and unlock valuable insights. We push ourselves to go beyond what’s expected, building with ownership, moving fast, and scaling with ambition as we tackle our biggest growth opportunity in the US.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (5 to 7+ years of experience) to join our lean and high-performing legal team on a 9-month fixed-term contract, covering a maternity leave and starting 1 December 2026. Depending on business needs, this contract may be extended or lead to a permanent (CDI) offer. Working directly with the VP Legal (based in Paris), you will help ensure continuity across the team’s activities and play a key role in supporting Sunday’s international growth and strengthening our legal capabilities across Europe and the US.
You’ll act as a generalist legal counsel with a strong international and commercial focus, covering contracts, privacy, payments, and product compliance across multiple jurisdictions. You will quickly take ownership of your scope and ensure a smooth handover and continuity throughout the maternity leave cover.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Commercial
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements.
Maintain and update terms of service and other customer-facing legal documents.
Streamline contracting processes: standardize templates, playbooks, and workflows to support scale.

Privacy, Data & AI
Improve Sunday’s GDPR/privacy program and support data governance across the business.
Advise on AI compliance and governance.
Payments & Regulatory
Act as legal advisor on payment matters: monitor and apply payment scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard) and help define Sunday’s regulatory perimeter (PSD2/PSR, AML obligations).
Advise the business on the legal and regulatory implications of new payment products and features.
Legal advisory & compliance
Monitor legal developments in key jurisdictions (EU, UK, US) and assess their impact.
Provide practical, business-oriented advice on international operations and regulatory requirements.
Identify, assess, and help mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the business.
Employment & Legal Operations
Support HR and management with employment contracts, policies, and day-to-day labor law compliance across France, the UK, and the US.
Assist with workplace disputes as needed.
Contribute to Legal Operations: build self-serve resources, playbooks, and internal tools to improve team efficiency and reduce bottlenecks; help maintain legal & regulatory watch across our key jurisdictions.
About You
5 to 7+ years of legal experience, ideally combining private practice and in-house.
Strong experience in commercial contracts and data protection, combined with hands-on experience in payments/fintech regulation (card schemes, PSD2/PSR, AML/CFT).
Exposure to the US market or ability to operate in an international environment.
Previous experience in a startup or scale-up environment (ideally fintech, payments, or tech).
Pragmatic and business-minded - you focus on solutions, not roadblocks.
Comfortable working independently, prioritizing competing requests, and building structure in a fast-moving environment.
Fluent in English and French (written and spoken).
Nice to have:
-Hands-on experience with US contracting frameworks.
